The improvement of economic competitiveness, energy efficiency and sustainable mobility are some of the pillars of a transversal and participatory initiative, which puts data science and the latest technology at the service of improving the quality of life of residents and from the visitor experience

Deloitte and Telefónica companies, winners of the Lanzarote Smart Island initiative, were responsible for presenting during the past week the presentation of this transversal and participatory project to the different agents and groups of the island. On Tuesday, October 1, the shift was for workers and representatives of the island Public Administrations, among which was the Minister of Employment, Transportation and New Technologies of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Nerea Santana.

The second session held on Wednesday, October 2 meeting the companies and associations of the island, while the last day held on Thursday, October 3 was intended for the general public and interested in the initiative. During the different days, the master axes and the planned action plan of an initiative that puts data science and the latest technology at the service of improving the quality of life of residents and the experience of visitors were broken down.

Lanzarote Smart Island is a private public collaboration platform that will boost the development of the island through its digital transformation, with the intention of turning Lanzarote into an example of good practices in the field of open innovation and data in the field of tourism.

The consultant Deloitte is in charge of developing the strategic planning of this project. The company is working on six smart areas, including mobility, economy, people, life, the environment and government, with the aim of establishing the foundations of a more attractive and competitive island . “We want to continue holding meetings and meetings with all the agents and island groups to have a strategic, generic and integrated vision of the current reality of Lanzarote and thus be able to define, with real data and information, the package of actions that benefit the most society as a whole ”.

From Telefónica, attendees were explained what the benefits of technology associated with Lanzarote Smart Island will be. Grouped in the LriB platform, the project includes the creation of an intelligent, interactive and personalized digital tourism channel, “supervised” by Yaiza, intelligent travel assistant. In addition, the sensorization of the island is planned, an initiative that will allow the “creation” of meteorological stations to know the state of the weather instantly, or the counting of vehicles or people in real time in a certain space, which will allow these flows to other areas of the island and avoid queues and crowds. “All these data will be feeding and nourishing the platform”, which will allow to know, even, the volume of pollutant gases that are being emitted into the atmosphere at any point of the island.
